Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is the European third generation wireless standard. It offers a wide range of voice, data and multimedia services. UMTS is closely related to GSM/EDGE as it borrows and builds upon concepts from GSM. Further, most UMTS handsets also support GSM.
