The DENT project, an open source network operating system utilising the Linux Kernel, Switchdev, and other Linux based projects, has announced the launch of DentOS 3.0, code-named “Cynthia,” a network operating system (NOS) that’s now moved to a more rapid release cycle. This operating system provides a flexible and customizable platform for network administrators to manage their networks, while also leveraging the power of open source technologies. (more…)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has contributed a specification for an edge gateway to the Open Compute Project. Through additional AWS contributions, this edge gateway will also support OCP’s Switch Abstraction Layer (SAI) and thus end users will have a choice of network OS including SONiC or DENT from the Linux Foundation. The Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organisation focused on fostering innovation through open source, has announced an open sourcing of two new 5G projects, ProD3 and SEDIMENT, from Peraton Labs. Peraton Labs is a provider of applied research unit of Peraton a mission capability integrator and transformative enterprise IT provider. San Jose, United States – Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP), the nonprofit organisation, announced an expanded collaboration with the Linux Foundation (LF), leveraging hardware-software co-design strategy by establishing a framework for creation of joint-effort shared communities and coordinated deliverables. Adding to the collaboration announced in April 2022 for data centre switching efforts on switch abstraction interface (SAI) at OCP and SONiC at LF, the OCP and LF have established a new effort supported by Microsoft and Google called Caliptra, standardising implementation of silicon embedded hardware root of trust security.
