Take me down to the smart city – Part One

In 2015, market research firm Juniper Research declared Barcelona the smartest city in the world. As a result of the city’s support for local public transportation and electric vehicles, there are now 500 hybrid taxis on the streets of Barcelona, as well as nearly 300 public electric vehicles and an estimated 400 private electric cars. Barcelona has also implemented a programme that calls for the intelligent networking of energy and water supplies, recycling, lighting and mobility systems. OpenSTX foundation launches to standardise next-generation protocol for industrial wireless

Open Source Summit North America — The Joint Development Foundation, part of the Linux Foundation family, has announced the launch of the OpenSTX Foundation, a new community-driven initiative to support the development and adoption of Synchronous Transmission (STX)-based wireless networking as an open industry standard. LoRa Alliance brings LoRaWAN to IoT Solutions World Congress

The LoRa Alliance, the global association of companies backing the open LoRaWAN standard for the internet of things (IoT) low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs), has announced that it will bring together its extensive LoRaWAN ecosystem as part of IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC), taking place May 13–15, 2025, at Barcelona’s Gran Via Venue. Under the banner “Building Massive IoT with LoRaWAN,” the organisation will feature a day-long program dedicated to LoRaWAN on May 14. Beyond the stage talks, members will share insights about their success stories as part of several show floor talks, including those from 19 LoRa Alliance member companies who will demonstrate LoRaWAN in Action! in Hall 8 Stand D9.
