China, India, Japan and South Korea set to surpass 1bn installed smart electricity meters in 2025

According to new a research report from the IoT analyst firm Berg Insight, the installed base of smart electricity meters in the Asian markets China, India, Japan and South Korea will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.9% from 613.4 million in 2018 to reach 965.9 million in 2024. (more…)

Smart grids to save city dwellers $14bn in energy costs by 2022, says Juniper Research

New data from Juniper Research has found that the development of smart grids linked to smart cities will result in citizens saving $14 billion (€11.67 billion) per annum in energy bills by 2022. This is up from the $3.4 billion (€2.83 billion) saving estimated for 2017, resulting from smart metre rollouts, energy-saving policies and sensing technology to improve grid reliability and efficiency. Unbroken growth trend for TALQ certifications increases interoperability in smart cities

The TALQ Consortium, which developed the Smart City Protocol, a global interface standard for smart city applications, continues to grow its membership base and announces every few weeks new officially TALQ-certified products. The TALQ-certified products include Central Management Software (CMS) and Outdoor Device Networks (ODN; Gateways) for various smart city applications, currently from 47 different vendors globally. By certifying their products according to the Smart City Protocol, manufacturers enable interoperability with a wide range of systems from other vendors. For cities and municipalities, the growing number of certified solutions offers not only greater flexibility and freedom of choice, but also the ability to avoid vendor lock-in when investing in smart city applications—such as Smart Street Lighting, Waste Management, Parking Solutions, Environmental Sensing or Traffic Control.
