When something is invisible, exercise caution and do all you can to reveal it and render it harmless. That’s the lesson the human race has learned from infectious micro-organisms—in many cases, the hard way. In enterprises today, writes Rob Greer, the chief marketing officer and senior vice president of products at ForeScout Technologies, where devices are constantly gaining access to networks sight unseen, fear of the invisible is certainly justifiable. But the good news is, IT administrators can put those fears to rest with currently available network access technologies that can largely “disinfect” the environment by making the invisible visible. Nokia Networks and Oi Brasil are to set up an LTE IoT lab and create a working group to study solutions and opportunities in IoT, develop joint projects and test innovative solutions. The investments in innovation will be supported by a fund that will finance projects within IoT verticals such as agribusiness, connected cars, homes and smart cities and e-health. (more…)

Entries are to be submitted via the official IoT Global Awards site and the shortlist of entries will be announced on Wednesday 16th September. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 7th October.

Netmore Group, the network operator and platform provider for Massive IoT, has announced a collaboration with Aarhus Vand and Kamstrup to support the deployment of approximately 69,000 digitally connected water meters across Aarhus Municipality, Denmark. Powered by Netmore’s carrier-grade LoRaWAN network and Kamstrup’s digital water metering technology, the project will provide Aarhus Vand with real-time visibility into water consumption while helping residents better understand and reduce their water usage.

Nordic Semiconductor, a global contributor in low-power wireless connectivity solutions, has announced a faster path to satellite and cellular IoT. Embedded modem innovator LooUQ‘s MTC2-N9151 has earned Skylo Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) certification, building on Nordic’s own Skylo-certified nRF9151 to reduce time-to-market for IoT product developers.
Water technology company Remsight is already deploying the compact, drop-in embedded modem from LooUQ to monitor water infrastructure across the American West, reaching the field much faster and at lower cost than it would have building their own solution from scratch.
