How it Works
The smart devices have microprocessors within them that are connected to the M2M module. The M2M module is a real cellular/PCS bidirectional radio that is capable of transmitting and receiving data as well as voice. The data speeds can be very high, but most of the units send and receive small amounts of data. The smart meter sends the daily electrical use of a house or business. This data is important as it also logs the time for critical load service. The smart HVAC system can be remotely queried to determine its efficiency; how long it has been running; status of the filters; air flow restrictions, and even gas charge level. This is handled remotely via the internal cellular modem with the interconnection to the main control system on board the system.
M2M Connection Problems
M2M devices within a structure face the problem of low signal level due to shielding from the actual structure, antenna placement and sensitivity, and components used in the construction of the building. To overcome this and provide for continuous uninterrupted RF signal, our Cellular/PCS Amplifier Systems are specifically made for this job.
Our amplifiers have internal circuitry that is designed to work together with the output and input signal of the cellular/PCS M2M device without any harm to the modem or our amplifier. In addition, the amplifier enhances the signal with additional filtration, to prevent the loss of data from either the receive or transmit side.
Cellular/PCS Service with the Amplifiers
Our amplifiers work with all of the present 800/1900 protocol’s and modulation systems in operation in the US and Canadian marketplaces. Amplifiers used in locations of weak signal drive down service calls which produces higher customer satisfaction. The amplifiers for the system controllers are tested in the laboratory and the field for proper operation.
Direct Connected Model Dual Band Bi-directional RF Amplifier
This model is designed to be directly connected to the M2M modem. The amplifier can be mounted as close as 20 centimeters from the module, or up to 10 meters from the module. The unit will support legally, an external antenna with up to a 7 dBi gain antenna, and still meet all FCC/IC requirements for RF emmissions. This model has a special input section that can handle very high input power from a module without damage to the unit.
This unit is very power effcient, using less than 40 per cent of the power of competitive units based upon tests consucted by our major customers. The output of the unit is very linear with almost no change with iunput voltage from 9 to 26 volts. The unit can be operated from a wall transformer of 102/240 VAC to 9 or 12 or 14 volts DC. It can also be operated from a 12 volt battery, or a solar panel with a minimum output of 0.500 amps at 9 volts.
Wireless, inductive Pickup Model Dual Band Bi-directional RF Amplifier
This model is designed to be operated as and inductive pickup, where the connection to the amplifier is wireless from the M2m module. This model can also be configured to operate in a confined room of up to 1000 square feet and supply enhanced performance for up to 6 different cellular/PCS radios or modules at the same time.

This unit has a microprocessor control to sense the ouput power and the input so that there cannot be a situation of interference. The smart circuitry has a visual indicator that shows green when the pickup unit and the exterior pickup are both far enough apart, and their gain filds are seperated correctly. If the pickup and the transmit antennas become closer together, there can be a yellow signal from the LED which means reduced power. If the LED goes red, the power is set to zero unitl the problem can be rectified.
This unit will support a pickup assembly up to 10 meters away, and a transmit antenna up to 15 meters away from the unit. The unit uses keyed RF connectors, so the pickup unit and the external antenna cannot be connected incorrectly.
Antennas and Signal Pickups
We have a variety of transmit receive antennas that are specifically chosen for a device and or location. The signal pickups we use are designed for optimum efficiency. We have direct connected cabling with all types of termination; inductive pickups that work through plastic and glass, and concentrated beam pickups for special hidden locations. Every system is shipped complete.
Direct connect pickups include cables that have the following terminations:
MMCX, MCX, U.FL, SMA, TNC, and FME to match the Farka connectors on our amplifier.
Pickup cables are available in standard lengths of 0.5 to 10 meters. Transmit cables are available from 5 to 20 meters. All cabling is supplied in low, and ultra low loss variety.
