Spark IoT joins Iota for advanced smart water metre management for councils

Spark IoT (Internet of Things) has announced a partnership with Iota, a wholly owned subsidiary of South East Water to bring its enterprise IoT platform Lentic and a new generation of smart water metre technology to local councils and water utilities in Aotearoa. 

In Australia, Iota is well progressed in a project to deploy 70,000 smart water metres for the Toowoomba Regional Council in Queensland. The metres and associated data will be managed by Lentic, Iota’s fit-for-water IoT enterprise platform to give the Council accurate data and real-time water usage updates as well as early detection of customer leaks, leading to water savings and improved planning decisions.  

The Lentic solution is a key pillar in the Council’s digital transition as they embrace IoT and the integration of data across various enterprise systems to provide valuable insights, help residents monitor water usage, and enable the Council to proactively manage its water network. 

“IoT and other high-tech solutions are a natural enabler in helping local councils and communities in Aotearoa to more effectively manage water as an essential resource,” Philippe Boulanger, Spark IoT Growth Lead says. “As we continue to face the impacts of climate change and more frequent and extreme weather events, it is critical to better understand how precious natural resources such as water is sourced, treated, and distributed.” 

Boulanger adds that advanced digital technologies such as IoT is an important enabler of these processes due to near real-time monitoring and detection capabilities of these devices over a dedicated, nationwide NB-IoT network. “IoT is now reaching a level of maturity where they have the potential to solve important challenges where it wasn’t possible in the past.”   

 “As water authorities deploy large numbers of IoT devices to monitor water and wastewater networks, it is critical to manage the devices and to be able to trust the unprecedented volumes of data coming in,” Daniel Sullivan, Iota CEO says. “Lentic is the enterprise IoT platform designed by a water utility, with in-built rules and alarms to validate the data and support the many different use cases such as automated customer leak notifications. Water is our most precious resource, and the best way we can protect it is to be able to accurately monitor it and the networks in which it flows.” 

 Last year, Spark IoT also announced a partnership with GreenBe, an Australian cloud-based customer engagement solution, which utilises data from Lentic to display consumption dashboards for customers and notifications when water usage goes beyond a certain threshold. Lentic and Greenbe are effectively deployed by the Toowoomba Regional Council for their smart water metre program.

IMC to host open forums on IoT security across industries

The IoT M2M Council (IMC) has announced that it will hold a series of open forums in the next month to discuss security for infrastructure that connects remote devices. The objective of the forums will be to develop practical guidelines for deploying IoT technology that spans both consumer and industrial markets and addresses all the basic facets of an IoT deployment, including devices, networks and cloud/application software. New partnership aims to secure and streamline the IoT ecosystem

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (the Alliance) and the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO) have announced their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signifying their shared commitment to ensuring the security and interoperability of the Internet of Things (IoT).

This MOU between the Alliance and ETNO will enable both organisations to pool their expertise and resources to navigate the complexities of the IoT ecosystem and its regulatory landscape, advance its transformative potential and foster a safer, more secure world for connected devices.

Technological innovations and the telecommunications landscape alike are evolving at an unprecedented pace. The IoT is an important factor of this evolution, with networks of connected devices having emerged as a catalyst for growth and innovation throughout industry and society. Alongside an enormous growth in the number of IoT devices – with device numbers expected to increase to 49 billion in 2026 – telecommunications operators have a central role in this ecosystem by facilitating the connectivity of IoT devices.

“While the growth of IoT connectivity presents immense opportunities, it also raises important questions on how to ensure seamless connectivity and data security in an ever-evolving technological landscape,” said Tobin Richardson, the president and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. “With this collaboration, the Alliance is honoured to work alongside ETNO to foster an innovative IoT ecosystem built on key foundations of safety and security.”

Onymos and Vapotherm partner to innovate respiratory care with IoT

Onymos and Vapotherm have announced the formation of a development and commercialisation partnership. This partnership will help Vapotherm create a unique respiratory digital platform to meet its data visualisation and device management goals for the Vapotherm HVT 2.0 system in the acute care space as well as for future products in the home.

Through the Onymos Features-as-a-Service platform, Vapotherm accesses Onymos’ suite of Internet of Things (IoT) features — including Onymos Edge, Onymos Access and Onymos DataStore — to build a secure end-to-end solution to connect the HVT 2.0 fleet with the cloud. It consists of a GoLang-based “Gateway” application, an Angular web dashboard for remote device management and cloud storage for patient data. The solution is currently undergoing beta testing with select hospitals.

The HVT 2.0 system currently uses Vapotherm’s high-velocity therapy and has a large, intuitive touchscreen to display relevant clinical information at a distance (flow, FiO2, temperature, safety alarms, event log etc.). Connectivity provides clinically relevant information remotely to help medical teams make informed and confident decisions quickly.

Eseye and Thales partnership to simplify global IoT deployments

Eseye has selected Thales to accelerate and simplify worldwide IoT deployment with a seamless connectivity solution. Thales solution enables Eseye to automatically connect IoT devices with the most appropriate profile the first time they are powered up and in-life. Thales Adaptive Connect (TAC) based on eSIM (embedded SIM) technology that simplifies the management of IoT devices lifecycle.
