Big data and IoT to benefit UK industries through connectivity

The value of big data equity in the UK was estimated at £12 billion a year or 0.7% of the annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2012, writes Mark Wilkinson, the regional vice president for Northern Europe and Russia/CIS at SAS. Four years flew by and the second report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) has put the opportunity at £46 billion by 2020, or 2.2% of GDP – nearly four times the original value. Hapag-Lloyd has signed an agreement with ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, one of the world’s largest container shipping line, under which Hapag-Lloyd will acquire 100% of ZIM’s shares for a consideration of USD 35.00 per share in cash. The total transaction value amounts to over USD 4 billion.

Sphero launches BOLT+ coding robot powered by Nordic Semiconductor

Educational technology company Sphero has launched ‘Bolt+’, an updated version of its ‘Bolt’ smart robot, designed to help students learn how to code. Aimed at grades three to ten, BOLT+ can be programmed via an app to perform a variety of tasks, such as following a path, changing the colours of its lights, or updating its display, all using Nordic Semiconductor Bluetooth LE wireless connectivity.
