Redmond, United States – Microsoft Corp., and Viasat have announced a partnership to help deliver internet access to 10 million under-served people around the globe, including 5 million across Africa. Viasat, a global communications company, is the initial satellite partner to work with Microsoft’s Airband Initiative, and together they will deepen Airband’s work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Guatemala, Mexico, and the United States, as well as prioritise expanding the program to Egypt, Senegal and Angola to deliver much-needed internet connection, often for the first time. Liberty Lake, United States – Itron, Inc., which is innovating the way utilities and cities manage energy and water, announced that it’s working together with Maryland’s largest gas and electric utility, Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE), to connect and manage 260,000 Itron smart streetlights across the utility’s service territory. This will help reduce energy consumption and enhance the wellbeing and safety of the community.
