Smith Micro Software, a provider of software that simplifies and enhances mobile experiences, has announced that it has joined the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP, a global ecosystem of organisations working together to improve how people age through innovation, research and collaboration.

The AgeTech Collaborative brings together enterprises, startups, investors, service providers and ageing-focused organisations dedicated to accelerating technologies that help people live independently, safely and confidently as they age. The collaborative provides opportunities to share expertise, explore partnerships and bring innovative solutions to market that address the needs of older adults and their families.

Smith Micro joined the AgeTech Collaborative to engage with organisations focused on supporting senior adults through technology-enabled solutions. The company believes mobile devices play an increasingly important role in helping seniors remain connected, maintain independence and access support when needed.

“The future of aging will be shaped by technologies that help people remain independent while strengthening family connections,” said Bill Smith, the president, chief executive officer and chairman of Smith Micro. “The AgeTech Collaborative brings together organisations committed to solving real challenges facing senior adults and their families. We’re excited to expand our experience in connected mobile solutions to help create technologies alongside other innovators that make aging in place easier, safer and more connected.”

Through innovations such as SafePath OS for Senior Phone and companion SafePath caregiver applications, Smith Micro delivers connected experiences that help families stay informed, engaged and connected without compromising independence. The company’s solutions are designed to maximise wireless connectivity and create a simplified bridge to independent senior living. SafePath provides family members and caregivers the tools they need to facilitate support, maintain rapport and develop greater confidence and peace of mind for their loved one’s safety and well-being. Through partnerships with wireless operators, device manufacturers, service providers and digital partners, these solutions help organisations deliver technology experiences that enable older adults to live independently while staying connected to family, caregivers and support networks.

As the senior population continues to grow and technology becomes increasingly central to everyday life, organisations across multiple industries are seeking new ways to support healthy ageing, caregiving, communication and independence. Through participation in the AgeTech Collaborative, Smith Micro will connect with other organisations across the ageing and technology sectors to explore opportunities that help address these challenges while creating experiences for older adults and their families.
