Telefónica Tech, through ‘acens  part  of Telefónica Tech and in collaboration with AWS Academy and Fundación Telefónica’s 42 programming campuses, launches ‘AWS Cloud Camp by acens’. It is a training program completely free of charge that offers selected students the opportunity to become certified in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud technologies and to access a job.

AWS Cloud Camp by acens’ is aimed at 140 students from the four 42 programming campuses that Fundación Telefónica, in public-private partnership, has in Spain: Madrid, Urduliz (Bizkaia), Barcelona and Malaga. For the second consecutive year, the 42 learning model has been chosen by the WURI Ranking among the TOP 10 most innovative universities in the world, even ahead of prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Columbia or Yale.

‘42’ is a programming campus with an innovative learning methodology. It is based on peer-to-peer learning and gamification, whose objective is to train in the digital profiles demanded by the labour market. This initiative is part of Telefónica’s global innovation and talent hub, a commitment by the company to lead the new digital world through training in technological skills and competencies demanded by the labour market.

From today until 22 December, selected students will be able to train and certify in AWS Cloud Foundations and AWS Cloud Architecting through the AWS Academy platform and the mentoring of specialised professionals, following 42’s philosophy based on flexible learning and the cooperation of participants.

The training programme consists of several phases in which students will be introduced to and deepen their understanding of cloud computing, as well as services for building and designing secure, resident IT solutions available on the AWS Cloud. Learning also includes the opportunity to explore AWS services for account security, networking, monitoring, automation, backup and recovery, and more.

Certified students will have the opportunity to join the acens team, as a centre specialising in AWS technologies at Telefónica Tech, and form part of a group of expert professionals in charge of applying the best practices recommended by AWS to offer customers a fast and secure transition to the cloud.

María Jesús Almazor, CEO of Cybersecurity and Cloud at Telefónica Tech, says “Training and attracting the best talent in new technologies is essential to build a more advanced and innovative society and to offer the best services to customers. The programme we are launching, in collaboration with AWS Academy and the Fundación Telefónica 42 programming campuses, will allow us to strengthen our teams and capabilities in AWS technology and continue to consolidate our position as the largest technology hub in southern Europe and the best partner to accompany companies in their digital transformation.

Kevin Kelly, director of cloud career training programs at AWS says, “Professionals with cloud skills are in high demand as more organisations invest in their future with the cloud. We’re proud to help Telefónica Tech advance the training and learning opportunities for its students. With AWS Academy, students will be equipped with the in-demand, practical cloud skills they need to land high-quality jobs in one of the fastest growing industries”.

The ‘AWS Cloud Camp by acens’ programme will be presented on 14 October at an institutional event to be held at 42 Urduliz, with the participation of Ainara Basurko, provincial councillor for economic promotion at the provincial council of Bizkaia-Bizkaiko Foru Aldundia; María Jesús Almazor, CEO of cybersecurity and cloud at Telefónica Tech; Manuel Ángel Alonso, director of public administrations and large companies in the Northern territory at Telefónica de España; Javier Cobo, COO of acens; Eva Labarta, director of public sector Spain AWS and Carlos Carús (EMEA education programs manager).

A long-standing partnership with AWS

Telefónica and AWS began their relationship to facilitate enterprise adoption of cloud services in 2018. Since then, the two companies have advanced their collaboration and recently Telefónica Tech and AWS announced a new global agreement to drive the digital transformation of the business world by developing innovative services.

This new alliance, announced in February, included a commitment by Telefónica Tech and AWS to invest in activities to develop new cloud solutions and expand the capabilities and training of Telefónica Tech professionals in this technology. This collaboration involved opening up new opportunities in 5G and new use cases in edge computing, machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), video streaming and gaming and Industry 4.0; as well as the development of Telefónica Tech’s managed and professional services around AWS technology. Telefónica Tech was also the AWS Partner in Spain to obtain the security competency in 2020, which means the qualification as a partner with adoption, development and implementation capabilities in cloud security projects in AWS environments.
