Yokogawa Electric corp, announces Launch of GX-Series panel mount paperless recorders, atificial intelligence (AI) enabled paperless recorders the GP series and the GA10 data logging software, which are components of the highly operable and expandable SMARTDAC + data acquisition and control system .

This new AI functionality includes the pencil of the future, a feature developed by Yokogawa that allows you to draw predicted waveforms. Yokogawa is also launching a new CPU module for peripheral computing platform e-RT3 Plus has a robust environment and is compatible with Python. The SMARTDAC + system is a product family of data acquisition OpreX , and e-RT3 Plus is part of the family of devices OpreX control.

Incorporating AI features such as the pen of the future, the first of its kind for industrial recorders, will help users identify and correct problems before they can cause disruptions to production operations.

Background

There is a growing interest in the manufacturing sector for the use of AI to avoid equipment failures and maximise productivity. At the same time, AI technologies have a steep learning curve, and incorporating existing AI-enabled products and analysing their data is generally beyond the reach of novices in this field.

Recorders are used in manufacturing and R&D to acquire, display, and record data for voltage, current, temperature, flow, pressure, and other process variables. Yokogawa is a manufacturer of recorders and also has strong experience in the consulting industry with the use of machine learning to forecast and analyse both equipment anomalies and product quality for the manufacturing sector.

In order to improve productivity and product quality, Yokogawa is currently incorporating user-friendly AI-related features into its recorders, data logging software, and controllers. For example, These features now allow GX / GP series recorders to draw on-screen waveforms that are predicted based on real-time analysis of collected data, so that users can anticipate and correct problems at an early stage, before they can get worse. Additionally, the e-RT3 Plus peripheral computing platform has been enhanced with the addition of support for Python, a widely used programming language for AI R&D.

Improvements

  1. AI pen of the future function for drawing predicted waveforms: A pen of the future function has been added to the GX / GP series recorders to enable the drawing of predicted waveforms based on the use of AI to analyse the data collected in real time. By viewing the forecast waveforms up to a specific point in time, users can identify the probability of an alarm occurring and take action ahead of time. An industry first, this device adds a whole new dimension to the capabilities of loggers, which have traditionally been used to collect and record data to visualize past and present performance of various types of equipment.
  2. Anomaly detection and prediction of failures: An automatic learning function has been added to the GA10 datalogging software that can acquire normal process values from properly functioning devices and use them to detect an anomaly and predict a possible failure, a function that until now they only owned the most expert operators. Data about the device that is predicted to fail is displayed on the screen, highlighted with a yellow box. Thus, maintenance can be performed before the device fails, minimising the likelihood of production interruptions. This feature does not require the collection of abnormal process values and is therefore easy to implement.
  3. Adding python compatibility: e-RT3 Plus controllers can be integrated into various types of devices. For use with these controllers, Yokogawa releases a new CPU module that supports Python, a programming language widely used in machine learning and other branches of the AI area. The large software library written in this language includes numerous tools that programmers use to accelerate the development of AI predictive diagnostic functions. This new CPU module features excellent environment resistance and easily adapts to existing input / output (I / O) modules. The addition of this new module to the e-RT3 Plus peripheral computing platform will allow the incorporation of AI solutions in a broader range of industries.

For added flexibility, the new e-RT3 Plus drivers run on Linux Ubuntu, a general-purpose operating system.

Main markets targeted by the

GX Series: Manufacturing plants in a wide range of industries, such as steel, electric power, chemicals, paper and cellulose, food, pharmaceuticals, heat treatment equipment, water supply and wastewater treatment,

GP series electrical and electronic equipment : Companies involved in R&D of household appliances, automobiles, semiconductors and technologies related to new energies, as well as academic institutions and research institutes

GA10: Both previous cases e-RT3 Plus: Industrial machinery manufacturers and companies involved in the assembly of electronic components and devices

Applications

Monitoring and recording of voltage, currents, temperature, flow, pressure and other process variables; performance evaluation in equipment management, production and product development; safety and reliability evaluation during product quality inspection processes

  1. Versatile programming language widely used in AI application development. Designed to be easy to use with very simple code, Python allows users to write different programs clearly with fewer lines of code than other languages. Additionally, there are numerous open source Python libraries available for use in machine learning and other AI applications.
  2. According to a Yokogawa survey from March 2020.
  3. Linux installation and distribution package provided by Canonical Ltd., a UK based software company.
