TIoTA and MachNation team up to present trusted IoT challenges worldwide

The Trusted IoT Alliance (TIoTA), an ecosystem of more than 50 companies working together to build open source trusted systems for IoT with blockchain and related technologies, and MachNation, a global independent IoT research and benchmarking firm, introduced an initiative to stage a series of Trusted IoT Challenges worldwide.

Breakthrough sensors: Fugitive hydrocarbon detection utilising cloud based IoT Gas Activated Systems at Texas Tech University

The Petroleum Engineering Department at Texas Tech University conducted testing on the Gas Activated Systems suite of cloud-based fugitive hydrocarbon detection tools. DetectSys–a system utilising breakthrough multi-species gas quantification in a single sensor–complete with geolocation and long-range wireless communications, was exposed to methane in field-encountered conditions. IoT Platforms: is interoperability an issue?

Interoperability is coming: it’s only a question of when, not if. The IoT is predicated on the creation of a web of platforms that support smart environments in cities, manufacturing, health, energy and so on. Companies that want to work closely with their partners are creating smart ecosystems that comprise different platforms. Therefore an efficient, secure flow of information between platforms is required. It’s required for applications like the value chains of manufacturers and it becomes a critical issue when companies are acquired. Moreover a recent McKinsey report indicates that up to 40 percent of the value of the IoT can only be enabled with interoperability. (more…)
