Semtech launches LoRaWAN Hub Kit for SMB and smart home solutions

Semtech Corporation has announced availability of its one-channel LoRaWAN hub reference design and evaluation kit targeting smaller scale network deployments such as for SMB/SME and smart home applications.

Recent insights from Omdia predict LoRaWAN to have the greatest annual growth, at 30% over the 2023–30 forecast period. “It is a comparatively recent technology finding a niche in longer-distance, lower-power applications like irrigation systems and security sensors for property perimeters. As a sub-GHz protocol, it also has advantages in multi-unit installations. It penetrates glass, steel and concrete easily, giving it a significant advantage,” said Edward Wilford, the senior research director at Omdia. “The cost effectiveness of Semtech’s one-channel hub aligns well with such smaller-scale applications.”

Olivier Beaujard, a board member, officer of the board and chairman of regulatory affairs for the LoRa Alliance, the senior director at LoRa ecosystem for Semtech, said, “LoRaWAN continues to be a transformative industry catalyst for a more sustainable future. Supported by a thriving LoRaWAN ecosystem, Semtech’s one-channel hub reference design unlocks new use cases and opportunities for adoption in new markets that stand to benefit from LoRa’s long-range, low-power capabilities.”

HelixIntel improves PropertyOS CMMS platform with HSB IoT sensors

HelixIntel has announced the integration of HSB IoT sensor technology with its CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) platform, PropertyOS. The combination empowers users with real-time insights into environmental conditions, system performance, and automated work orders. The upgrades to PropertyOS, enhance maintenance management and improve asset reliability.

The fusion of HSB IoT sensor data with CMMS capabilities marks a significant leap forward in maintenance management. By incorporating data from sensors that detect moisture, heat, and other critical metrics, HelixIntel’s PropertyOS platform now offers unparalleled visibility and control over facility operations.

Users can monitor sensor readings via an intuitive dashboard to help predict equipment failures and prevent them from happening. This integration facilitates proactive maintenance, enhances asset performance, and minimises costly downtime. Alerts can automatically trigger customised workflows as designed by users. Tasks are then assigned to the appropriate personnel, and all aspects of the work orders are tracked from inception through completion.

“IoT sensors bring a new dimension to our CMMS platform,” Jon DeWald, CEO of HelixIntel, highlights the impact of these advancements. “By leveraging real-time HSB sensor data, we enable our users to take proactive measures, ensure equipment reliability, and promote operational efficiency. This reduces operational cost and enhances cap ex flexibility by extending the life of critical assets.”

In addition to IoT, PropertyOS enriches asset data with equipment photos, open work items, manufacturers and more, generating comprehensive digital records. These records help managers spot trends and coordinate maintenance teams more effectively. With the integration of predictive analytics, potential equipment failures may be identified before they occur, enhancing decision-making and maintenance planning to ensure optimal asset performance.

“Working together, HelixIntel’s integration of HSB IoT sensor data into its CMMS platform, PropertyOS, represents a pioneering step towards smarter, more efficient maintenance management,” said John Riggs, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Applied Technology Solutions for HSB. “By harnessing the power of real-time data and automated workflows, HelixIntel is driving new standards in asset management and operational excellence.”

HelixIntel revolutionises facility management with ‘forward-thinking’ solutions. PropertyOS simplifies facility management by seamlessly handling unlimited equipment, supplies, and inventory. Its cutting-edge Predict and Prevent Engine optimises operations, improve asset reliability, and mitigates risks for organisations and partners.

Keysight now part of federal JCDC initiative to boost cybersecurity resiliency

Keysight Technologies announced that it has joined the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC), expanding its current partnership with the U.S. government to enhance the nation’s cybersecurity resiliency. Leveraging 20 years of cybersecurity testing and threat intelligence research, Keysight will support JCDC’s mission of uniting the global cyber community in the collective defense of cyberspace.

In response to escalating threats to national security, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) established JCDC in August 2021 under Congressional authorization. As a unique public-private partnership, JCDC proactively gathers, analyzes, and shares actionable cyber risk information to enable improved cybersecurity planning, defense, and response. A primary goal of JCDC includes enabling participants to stay ahead of adversaries and reducing cybersecurity threats before they have an impact.

Keysight offers a comprehensive suite of tools that empower organizations to be proactive with their cybersecurity from chip to cloud, including testing of deployed tools against the latest threats and a Cyber Range training environment to keep skills up to date.

Keysight’s Threat Simulator offers daily updates with the latest malware and ransomware campaigns to validate firewalls, endpoint protection software, and SIEM tools, and CyPerf evaluates cybersecurity effectiveness and user experience in distributed and cloud environments. To test and improve the cybersecurity of devices such as IoT (Internet of Things) and industrial controllers, Keysight’s IoT Security Assessment provides firmware analysis, SBOM (software bill of materials) generation, and network security testing of connected devices.

Keysight’s security validation tools are automated and easy to use, so operators of critical IT and operational technology (OT) environments can easily validate their resilience to emerging threats. Additionally, Keysight offers cybersecurity validation products and services for every stage of the product lifecycle, from pre-silicon analysis to cloud security validation.

“Keysight is honored to join JCDC, extending our years of collaborating with the U.S. government as a provider of electronic test and measurement products and services including electronic warfare, 5G/6G, and cybersecurity validation and training,” said Scott Register, vice president of security solutions at Keysight. “By combining our expertise with the collective strength of JCDC, we can accelerate the development of innovative solutions to safeguard critical infrastructure and protect our nation from cyberattacks.”
