Tangshan Hongjia Electronic Technology has launched a new wireless module based on Nordic Semiconductor’s next generation nRF54L15 SoC, featuring a high-performance antenna, dual crystal oscillators (32 MHz + 32.768 kHz), RF matching circuitry, and a DC-DC converter. Only a power supply is required for immediate operation.
Ultra-compact design
The highly integrated ‘HJ-N54L_SIP’ comes in a 4.5 by 4.5 by 1.1 mm form factor making it the smallest module in its class, according to the company. An ‘HJ-N54L_SM’ variant is also provided, offering a larger footprint (10 by 10 by 2.5 mm) for end use cases where an ultra-compact design is not essential. Both modules are designed for a wide range of wireless IoT applications spanning smart home, consumer electronics, wearables, industrial monitoring and intelligent transportation.
“The extremely compact footprint of the HJ-N54L_SIP occupies minimal PCB space, allowing users to complete product development using a 2-layer PCB,” says Liu Jiahang, the CEO at Tangshan Hongjia Electronic Technology. “Other solutions typically require at least a 4-layer PCB design, increasing both the product development cycle and complexity.
“The compact size makes it easily integrable into devices such as hearing aids, smart rings and bracelets, and highly space-constrained smart IoT products.”
Nordic’s nRF54L15 SoC integrates a 128 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 processor, and a RISC-V co-processor, supported by 1.5 MB of non-volatile memory (NVM) and 256 KB of RAM. An ultra-low power multiprotocol 2.4 GHz radio provides multiprotocol connectivity options including Bluetooth LE, Thread, Zigbee, Matter and IEEE 802.15.4 (depending on firmware).
Advanced hardware and software security features include secure boot, secure firmware update and secure storage. Integrated tamper sensors can detect attacks and take protective action, while the cryptographic accelerators are hardened against side-channel attacks. It is designed for PSA Certified Level 3, the highest in the PSA Certified IoT security standard.
Faster processing with nRF54L15
“Nordic’s nRF54L15 SoC offers faster speeds, lower power consumption and richer peripherals than its nRF52 Series predecessor,” continues Liu. “The Arm Cortex-M33 processor enables the HJ-N54L_SIP to handle more complex applications while at the same time boosting processing speed.
“During development, Nordic’s Devzone tech support forum allowed us to resolve 99% of the issues we encountered, significantly boosting efficiency and reducing our development cycle. If the issues couldn’t be resolved online, Nordic’s localised technical support was always on hand to provide on-site guidance.”
