11th FIWARE Global Summit unites global tech innovators to shape sustainable and secure smart cities from Europe to Morocco

FIWARE Global Summit – an open source event for business, policy and technology, organised by FIWARE Foundation and University Mohammed VI Polytechnic in Morocco, will take place for the first time ever in Moroccan capital Rabat on 22-23 May 2025, highlighting the potential of smart and sustainable territories beyond Europe. As part of the Morocco Smart Cities Roadshow under leadership of UM6P, the 11th edition of the Summit will showcase cutting-edge technologies for sustainable smart cities, energy, water, mobility and governance, as well as digital transformation from Europe to the Moroccan and African territories.
FIWARE Global Summit and its Global Community are supporting the main strategy of Rabat Smart City to contribute to “Maroc Digital 2030” national strategy in the frame of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (in particular, SDG 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities) and invest in the development of urban innovation, territorial intelligence, social inclusion and public efficiency of the territories for the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. In a bid to achieve this, the 11th Summit edition is aiming to bring together worldwide experts, open source gurus, thought leaders, and analysts, as well as Moroccan businesses, policymakers, academia and developers for a joint contribution in technologies such as Artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins, Data Spaces, Big Data, Smart Data Models, and robotics for building an intelligent, digital, resilient and inclusive future.
Prof. Aawatif Hayar, the chairman of the Smart Cities Morocco Roadshow in UM6P and former Moroccan Minister, stated: “Inspired by the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, we are contributing, through the Smart City Morocco Roadshow and the SMART@UM6P initiative, to a collective ambition: preparing our territories to be smarter, more inclusive, and sustainable. As Morocco co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, this initiative seeks to mobilise artificial intelligence, local innovation, and citizen engagement to strengthen our urban resilience and ensure that our cities are ready; not only for global events, but for the everyday well-being of all citizens, in line with the UN SDGs and African Union’s Agenda 2063.”
Mr Chandra Challagonda, the CEO of FIWARE Foundation, added: “Hosting the 11th FIWARE Global Summit in Rabat Smart City is a powerful statement of intent — to extend the reach of open innovation beyond Europe and into regions driving sustainable digital transformation. We are proud to bring our global community to Rabat, joining forces with Moroccan partners to support the ambitious Maroc Digital 2030 strategy. With UM6P and our global community, we are shaping the future of smart, secure and inclusive territories through interoperable trusted technologies and open standards. This Summit is not just about technology; it’s about enabling real impact — empowering cities, regions and citizens to thrive sustainably, collaboratively and with resilience as we look toward milestones like the 2030 World Cup and beyond.”
FIWARE Global Summit 2025 will be a unique platform to meet ministries and governors from all regions of Morocco, honoured guests and official representatives of Spain, Portugal, and Germany, as well as renowned speakers and key opinion leaders from the global organisations and private ICT companies such as: NEC Corporation, Engineering, Telefónica, Mitsubishi Electric, OASC, Libelium, Latitudo 40 and many others.
The Summit will feature two days of impactful programming, including keynote speeches from leaders of industry, interactive panel discussions, matchmaking and networking opportunities. On May 22nd, the first day of the conference, will focus on the plenary sessions highlighting:
-
- Global FIWARE Use Cases shaping smart cities to support Morocco to adopt scalable, interoperable technologies to enhance city services and infrastructure for 2030.
-
- Next-Generation Governance: How Morocco is modernising administration, enhancing transparency through data sharing, and using AI for smarter public services to build agile and citizen-focused governance to host the FIFA World Cup 2030.
-
- Sustainable Smart Cities: How cutting-edge technologies can elevate urban management: from predictive planning to real-time simulations, smart tools enable cities to optimise security, mobility, tourism and resource management.
-
- SDG-Driven Solutions for a Sustainable World Cup Legacy: How sustainable energy and water management are essential to building climate-resilient cities and how Morocco can ensure their efficiency and environmental stewardship by integrating green technologies, digital water solutions, and circular economy models.
On May 23rd, the program will be focused on presenting Data Spaces, Digital Twins and Smart Data Models to implement trusted, interoperable solutions for secure cities and their ecosystems and resilient event management. The second day will also present the best smart cities use cases of Morocco such as Province of Benguerir and Berkane, Commune of Agadir, Tetouan, and Chefchaouen. The event will close with a session on academic partnerships.
A key feature of the Summit is a two-day Training program for developers, software engineers, tech leads and CTOs providing interactive and hands-on sessions, explaining how to benefit from using standards in context data management, exploring practical examples on how to utilise context data in robotics and machine learning, deep dive into NGSI-LD within any domain, Digital Twins and Data Modelling, connection to IoT and Robotics, Security, Data Spaces, and Machine Learning deployment.
