Wi-Fi Alliance has established Wi-Fi Alliance Services as a wholly owned subsidiary to provide Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) services in response to industry demand. This is time for Wi-Fi industry and a compelling opportunity for newly formed subsidiary to serve a pivotal role in accelerating broad access to standard power 6 GHz spectrum operation once approved for commercial operation by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other national regulatory authorities.

Wi-Fi Alliance Services is built on a foundation of trust and credibility through its close relationship with Wi-Fi Alliance established more than two decades ago. The company exists solely to drive adoption of 6 GHz and brings skills and talent to address needs and assist customers in preparing their products and services for the market. Wi-Fi Alliance Services is positioned to deliver a vendor-agnostic service that complements Wi-Fi’s inherent strengths and supports, cost-effective deployment.

Wi-Fi AFC delivers many benefits:

“Wi-Fi Alliance Services is proud to serve a vital role in accelerating broad access to outdoor and standard power 6 GHz spectrum operation,” says Kevin Robinson, president and CEO, Wi-Fi Alliance Services. “The success of our customers is our purpose, and we are committed to offering a service that delivers sustainable business value for our customers across the globe. We also understand that long-term success is only possible by ensuring Wi-Fi remains a good steward of unlicensed spectrum as it has been for decades.”

The US FCC made the entire 6 GHz band available for unlicensed operations including Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi 6E and forthcoming Wi-Fi 7 devices operating outdoors or at standard power levels in this swath of unlicensed spectrum are required to use an AFC system to avoid interference with incumbent services. Likewise, the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) also made entire 6 GHz band available for unlicensed operations with the requirement that standard-power devices operate under the control of an AFC system. Wi-Fi Alliance Services is currently focused on serving US and Canadian markets, but is prepared to adapt and scale Wi-Fi AFC globally to serve Wi-Fi equipment vendors and service providers as regulatory landscape evolves around the world.
