PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) continues to strengthen its position as the initial operator to introduce convergence services through XL SATU. To maximise services, XL SATU is now adopting fibre to the room (FTTR) technology, which will soon be introduced and can be used by customers, to further enhance the convenience of internet at home.

In addition, service area coverage continues to expand, and is now present in 63 cities and regencies, with Batam city being the latest area.

Director and chief commercial officer – home, XL Axiata, Abhijit J. Navalekar, says “Our efforts to continuously improve the quality of XL SATU services are part of XL Axiata’s convergence service development. This is also in line with the growing demand for XL SATU Fibre services which we predict will continue to increase in the coming years. We will continue to adopt the latest technology and expand the market, where we see the huge market potential in Indonesia. Our fibre network development will continue to expand to new areas.”

Abhijit adds that the adoption of FTTR technology is done to prevent speed degradation caused by Wi-Fi networks that are less able to penetrate barriers, such as walls, and home partitions that adversely affect the customer experience. The use of FTTR fibre optics will ensure a smoother, faster and more stable internet experience evenly distributed throughout the house or building.

In collaboration with Huawei, FTTR is a solution with fibre optic cabling as a network medium, which is installed in each room in a house or building. This technology ensures stability and internet speed that is evenly distributed to all rooms in the house that cannot be reached by mesh Wi-Fi devices. FTTR devices are able to provide the experience for its customers in online video streaming, online gaming, telecommuting services, and providing a consistent, stable and smart home ecosystem experience.

“As a strategic partner of XL Axiata, Huawei is committed to supporting XL Axiata’s digital transformation strategy by providing innovative cutting-edge technologies and bringing the best network experience to every XL customer. Huawei’s innovative FTTR solutions, including FTTR for Home and FTTR for SMEs (small and medium enterprises), provide network services with ultra-high bandwidth, ultra-low latency, seamless Wi-Fi roaming and intelligent standalone Wi-Fi and management for households and small and medium enterprises,” says Wei Wei, account director for XL Axiata at Huawei.

XL SATU Fibre presents in 63 cities and regencies

Batam City was chosen in consideration of the Batam residents who asked for XL SATU Fibre services as well as the high level of visits to the website and social media. Abhijit says, “We will continue to expand the coverage of XL SATU Fibre services. After Batam City, there are several more cities that are targeted for further expansion. So far, we have prioritised building the quality of XL SATU Fibre service while simultaneously preparing network infrastructure in potential areas. Batam City is a very potential area, as a business city with very dynamic citizens. Evidently, many Batam residents are asking for the presence of XL SATU Fibre in this city.
