New partnership aims to secure and streamline the IoT ecosystem

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (the Alliance) and the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO) have announced their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signifying their shared commitment to ensuring the security and interoperability of the Internet of Things (IoT).

This MOU between the Alliance and ETNO will enable both organisations to pool their expertise and resources to navigate the complexities of the IoT ecosystem and its regulatory landscape, advance its transformative potential and foster a safer, more secure world for connected devices.

Technological innovations and the telecommunications landscape alike are evolving at an unprecedented pace. The IoT is an important factor of this evolution, with networks of connected devices having emerged as a catalyst for growth and innovation throughout industry and society. Alongside an enormous growth in the number of IoT devices – with device numbers expected to increase to 49 billion in 2026 – telecommunications operators have a central role in this ecosystem by facilitating the connectivity of IoT devices.

“While the growth of IoT connectivity presents immense opportunities, it also raises important questions on how to ensure seamless connectivity and data security in an ever-evolving technological landscape,” said Tobin Richardson, the president and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. “With this collaboration, the Alliance is honoured to work alongside ETNO to foster an innovative IoT ecosystem built on key foundations of safety and security.”

“We are delighted to partner with the Connectivity Standards Alliance and work together for a safe and compatible IoT environment in Europe and beyond,” said Lise Fuhr, the director general of ETNO. “We aim to bring the contribution of European telecom operators in facilitating the adoption of the Internet of Things, as well as ensuring its security and reliability. As industry leaders, we will bring our unique European perspective to this global conversation, as it pertains to the development of IoT standards and the implementation of best practices for the benefit of all users.”

Upstream Security receives investment from Cisco for IoT cybersecurity advancements

Upstream Security has announced it received an investment from Cisco Investments. The proliferation of complex IoT devices in the mobility, automotive, and transportation sectors introduces unprecedented operational efficiencies, data-driven services and solutions, and exceptional customer experience. However, advanced connectivity and software-defined components also open the door for large-scale cyber risks, threatening business availability and data integrity.

Upstream already protects millions of mobility connected vehicles and IoT devices worldwide, offering a cloud-based multi-layered approach to extended detection and response.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cisco Investments to our group of investors,” said Yoav Levy, the co-founder and CEO of Upstream Security. “This investment provides a unique opportunity to deepen our impact on the IoT sector, and more specifically mobility, automotive and transportation.”

This investment by Cisco Investments amplifies the need for purpose-built IoT cybersecurity solutions that will safeguard the mobility and IoT ecosystem across the entire development and production lifecycle.

“Together with our partners, Cisco is enabling automobile manufacturers across the globe to provide mission-critical, secure connectivity as cars transform into data centers on wheels,” said Aleem Rizvon, a vice president at Cisco Investments. “With an expected 95% of new vehicles having embedded connectivity by the year 2030, we can also expect a rise in automotive cybersecurity threats. Investing in solutions, to ensure the right safeguards for secure connectivity and operation are in place, is critical to instill the trust needed for wide adoption of the technology, not just in the automotive segment, but more broadly for other IoT applications, as well.

Disrupting the IoT cybersecurity landscape

Upstream’s cloud-based IoT XDR platform analyses, in real-time, the contextual state of physical IoT assets and their connected ecosystem, to holistically identify and mitigate cyber risks. The Platform is agentless, requiring no installation of software or hardware, enabling rapid deployment and comprehensive coverage of devices already in production.

The Platform ingests, parses, and normalises vast amounts of connected vehicle data, IoT protocols, telematics, API transactions and other data streams from tens of millions of devices, endpoints and application consumers. This data enables the creation of unique digital twins—near real-time representations of devices and endpoints, facilitating holistic and effective detection. By monitoring devices, services and overall asset behavior, the Platform detects both known and unknown anomalies based on proprietary ML-powered models.

Coupled with a purpose-built vehicle security operation center (vSOC), dedicated for monitoring and investigating connected vehicles and IoT cyber threats, Upstream provides a holistic suite of cybersecurity solutions and services to enable customers to proactively identify and remediate cyber threats. Utilising Upstream’s Ocean AI, Generative AI-powered capabilities, accelerates the investigation remediation process.

Overhaul unveils CompliTrack for deviceless supply chain tracking

Overhaul has announced the launch of CompliTrack. This deviceless tracking solution streamlines in-transit compliance management for over-the-road (OTR) logistics.

Using established connections with Electronic Logging Device (ELD) providers, CompliTrack introduces an efficient and cost-effective enhancement to shipment tracking without the necessity for embedded IoT devices. This solution dramatically simplifies carrier onboarding, immediately elevating shipment visibility—a pivotal step in maintaining stringent compliance and security across diverse logistics operations. Through direct access to vehicle telematics data, it has enabled complete coverage of US shipments from the outset, streamlining processes and reducing the reliance on manual data tracking efforts.

The escalating complexity and frequency of cargo theft underscore the pressing need for such innovative compliance and risk mitigation strategies. With nearly a hundred incidents recorded monthly and a notable year-over-year uptick in both the volume and the average loss value of cargo thefts, the imperative for real-time monitoring and proactive management becomes clear. CompliTrack addresses this need head-on, offering enhanced visibility and actionable intelligence that empowers companies to anticipate and counteract potential security threats, ensuring a more secure and compliant supply chain environment.

CompliTrack is designed to simplify the tracking of OTR shipments, especially those not requiring embedded IoT devices, enabling companies to gain instant insights into shipment status, manage compliance proactively, and respond rapidly to any deviations from established standards. By usingcarrier ELD data, CompliTrack provides enhanced shipment tracking capabilities, from advanced alerts for non-compliance events to detailed compliance reporting, all within Overhaul’s unified platform.

“With CompliTrack, we’re setting a new industry standard for logistics compliance management,” said Barry Conlon, the CEO and founder of Overhaul. “This launch provides unparalleled visibility and control over OTR shipments, once again empowering our customers with the tools they need for a more secure, efficient and compliant supply chain.”

CompliTrack also offers optional integration with Overhaul’s LE Connect service, enhancing the platform’s security capabilities by providing direct communication with law enforcement in the event of cargo theft. This added layer of protection ensures that companies have the support they need to recover stolen goods and safeguard their supply chains quickly.
