Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Co., Ltd. (Toshiba) announced the launch of a sensorless sensor for brushless DC motors (BLDC motors) for automotive applications Controls the pre-driver IC TB9062FNG, which is suitable for automotive applications such as electric pumps. Samples of the product are currently available, and production plans are launched in December this year.

The new pre-driver can control the BLDC motor simply via the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) input without any high-performance MCUs and software.

The TB9062FNG has an automatic load generation function that adjusts the output PWM duty cycle to support the battery voltage (VBAT) at startup. It also provides a soft speed control function that mutates the output PWM value to prevent stalls. These features help stabilise motor control, and Toshiba’s earlier products did not have the above features.

Since the TB9062FNG is controlled by hard-wired logic, no software development is required. The product also implements VBAT overvoltage detection, VBAT undervoltage detection, overcurrent protection and overheat protection circuits. With an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, it is ideal for automotive applications.
