New partnership aims to secure and streamline the IoT ecosystem

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (the Alliance) and the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO) have announced their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signifying their shared commitment to ensuring the security and interoperability of the Internet of Things (IoT).

This MOU between the Alliance and ETNO will enable both organisations to pool their expertise and resources to navigate the complexities of the IoT ecosystem and its regulatory landscape, advance its transformative potential and foster a safer, more secure world for connected devices.

Technological innovations and the telecommunications landscape alike are evolving at an unprecedented pace. The IoT is an important factor of this evolution, with networks of connected devices having emerged as a catalyst for growth and innovation throughout industry and society. Alongside an enormous growth in the number of IoT devices – with device numbers expected to increase to 49 billion in 2026 – telecommunications operators have a central role in this ecosystem by facilitating the connectivity of IoT devices.

“While the growth of IoT connectivity presents immense opportunities, it also raises important questions on how to ensure seamless connectivity and data security in an ever-evolving technological landscape,” said Tobin Richardson, the president and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. “With this collaboration, the Alliance is honoured to work alongside ETNO to foster an innovative IoT ecosystem built on key foundations of safety and security.”

“We are delighted to partner with the Connectivity Standards Alliance and work together for a safe and compatible IoT environment in Europe and beyond,” said Lise Fuhr, the director general of ETNO. “We aim to bring the contribution of European telecom operators in facilitating the adoption of the Internet of Things, as well as ensuring its security and reliability. As industry leaders, we will bring our unique European perspective to this global conversation, as it pertains to the development of IoT standards and the implementation of best practices for the benefit of all users.”

Upstream Security receives investment from Cisco for IoT cybersecurity advancements

Upstream Security has announced it received an investment from Cisco Investments. The proliferation of complex IoT devices in the mobility, automotive, and transportation sectors introduces unprecedented operational efficiencies, data-driven services and solutions, and exceptional customer experience. However, advanced connectivity and software-defined components also open the door for large-scale cyber risks, threatening business availability and data integrity.

Upstream already protects millions of mobility connected vehicles and IoT devices worldwide, offering a cloud-based multi-layered approach to extended detection and response.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cisco Investments to our group of investors,” said Yoav Levy, the co-founder and CEO of Upstream Security. “This investment provides a unique opportunity to deepen our impact on the IoT sector, and more specifically mobility, automotive and transportation.”

This investment by Cisco Investments amplifies the need for purpose-built IoT cybersecurity solutions that will safeguard the mobility and IoT ecosystem across the entire development and production lifecycle.

“Together with our partners, Cisco is enabling automobile manufacturers across the globe to provide mission-critical, secure connectivity as cars transform into data centers on wheels,” said Aleem Rizvon, a vice president at Cisco Investments. “With an expected 95% of new vehicles having embedded connectivity by the year 2030, we can also expect a rise in automotive cybersecurity threats. Investing in solutions, to ensure the right safeguards for secure connectivity and operation are in place, is critical to instill the trust needed for wide adoption of the technology, not just in the automotive segment, but more broadly for other IoT applications, as well.

Disrupting the IoT cybersecurity landscape

Upstream’s cloud-based IoT XDR platform analyses, in real-time, the contextual state of physical IoT assets and their connected ecosystem, to holistically identify and mitigate cyber risks. The Platform is agentless, requiring no installation of software or hardware, enabling rapid deployment and comprehensive coverage of devices already in production.

The Platform ingests, parses, and normalises vast amounts of connected vehicle data, IoT protocols, telematics, API transactions and other data streams from tens of millions of devices, endpoints and application consumers. This data enables the creation of unique digital twins—near real-time representations of devices and endpoints, facilitating holistic and effective detection. By monitoring devices, services and overall asset behavior, the Platform detects both known and unknown anomalies based on proprietary ML-powered models.

Coupled with a purpose-built vehicle security operation center (vSOC), dedicated for monitoring and investigating connected vehicles and IoT cyber threats, Upstream provides a holistic suite of cybersecurity solutions and services to enable customers to proactively identify and remediate cyber threats. Utilising Upstream’s Ocean AI, Generative AI-powered capabilities, accelerates the investigation remediation process.

Onymos and Vapotherm partner to innovate respiratory care with IoT

Onymos and Vapotherm have announced the formation of a development and commercialisation partnership. This partnership will help Vapotherm create a unique respiratory digital platform to meet its data visualisation and device management goals for the Vapotherm HVT 2.0 system in the acute care space as well as for future products in the home.

Through the Onymos Features-as-a-Service platform, Vapotherm accesses Onymos’ suite of Internet of Things (IoT) features — including Onymos Edge, Onymos Access and Onymos DataStore — to build a secure end-to-end solution to connect the HVT 2.0 fleet with the cloud. It consists of a GoLang-based “Gateway” application, an Angular web dashboard for remote device management and cloud storage for patient data. The solution is currently undergoing beta testing with select hospitals.

The HVT 2.0 system currently uses Vapotherm’s high-velocity therapy and has a large, intuitive touchscreen to display relevant clinical information at a distance (flow, FiO2, temperature, safety alarms, event log etc.). Connectivity provides clinically relevant information remotely to help medical teams make informed and confident decisions quickly.

“We continually look to provide our customers with innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes as evidenced by our recent HVT 2.0 launch and future home offerings. We believe that by adopting Onymos’ suite of IoT features into these products it will help medical teams make informed decisions quickly to help treat their patients and improve outcomes at a lower cost. This is huge for understaffed hospitals especially. It’s an honour to help our customers and to partner with Onymos to make our connected cloud solutions a reality – one that continues to enhance and adjust according to physician feedback and needs,” said Brian Lawrence, the chief technology officer at Vapotherm.

“We are proud to work alongside Vapotherm to help the company realise its data visualisation and device management goals for the HVT 2.0 system and future home product,” said Shiva Nathan, the founder and CEO of Onymos. “By leveraging multiple facets of our Features-as-a-Service platform, we are able to develop an extensive Internet of Medical Things solution that is both SOC 2 and HIPAA compliant 80 percent faster than the standard development timeline.”

The Onymos Features-as-a-Service platform is a pro-code platform that enables companies and organizations — such as medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, retailers, and education institutions — to achieve the speed, quality and value in their web, mobile and IoT application development and innovation. It has over 20 foundational app features and can be easily added to new or existing applications. The Onymos platform includes the UI/UX, security, help with compliance requirements, underlying logic that runs on the device, the server-side functions and integrations that process and store data in the cloud, and continuous updates. The Onymos platform also supports many of the other most popular frameworks for web and mobile application development.
